Homemade Vegan Pizza Recipe

Ingredients
  

For the dough (or use store-bought vegan pizza dough):
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast 1 packet
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
For the toppings:
  • 1 cup pizza sauce store-bought or homemade
  • 1 cup vegan mozzarella shreds or cashew-based cheese
  • 1-2 medium tomatoes thinly sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes optional
  • Salt and pepper to your taste

Equipment

Method
 

Prepare the dough (if making from scratch):
  1. In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until it forms a dough.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Preheat the oven:
  1. Preheat to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.
Assemble the pizza:
  1. Roll out the dough into a 12-inch circle or rectangle. Transfer to a baking sheet or preheated stone.
  2. Spread pizza sauce evenly over the dough. Sprinkle vegan mozzarella on top.
  3. Add sliced tomatoes, drizzle olive oil, and season with oregano, salt, and pepper.
Bake:
  1. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until crust is golden and cheese is melted.
Finish and serve:
  1. Remove from the oven and top with fresh basil leaves. Slice and serve hot.
