As a vegan, though, you’re not stopped from shopping at any time; there are times when shopping is just not right for you. Here are some of the worst times to shop if you’re a vegan.

1. Before Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a big celebration, and most of the traditional Thanksgiving dishes are not ideal for vegans. For example, the Thanksgiving dinner is usually centered around a large roasted turkey.

Due to this, a lot of stores focus heavily on things like turkey, ham, and other non-vegan foods that people tend to buy more of during this season. There is also a chance that stores will ignore the plant-based sections, with it likely being understocked.

2. Before Easter

Most typical Easter dishes include lamb, ham, pot roast, pork chops, and fish, which are not suitable for you as a vegan.

Due to the rise in demand for these seasonal foods, stores are forced to have them available, even if it means the vegan section is pushed aside. Also, there are more crowds at stores during this period, so you may not be able to properly read the labels of what you’re buying.

3. Before Christmas

Just like the celebrations above, traditional Christmas meals include roast turkey, baked chicken, etc. These are not plant-based based so vegans can’t take them.

During the Christmas run-in, a lot of stores focus more on chicken, turkey, beef, dairy, and other non-vegan holiday food. This ultimately means that the vegan section will be understocked or pushed aside in favor of the season’s favorites.

4. During Non-Vegan Heavy Promotions

Apart from festive periods, stores have certain times when they run massive promotions on meat, dairy, and other non-vegan foods.

At this point, you don’t need to stress yourself as there is a high chance that the vegan section will be ignored.

5. During Trends

This is one that is a bit tricky, but I’ll still say, when there are viral vegan trends online like Veganuary, just be prepared to have an uncomfortable shopping experience.

A lot of vegan foods will be sold out, and worse off, there can be unnecessary hikes in the prices of plant-based foods, making your grocery bill way more than you originally planned.

I’d say you wait until the hype dies down and you can return to having a pleasurable shopping experience.

Now that you know the worst time to shop for a vegan, I hope you can find a way to work around them. One of the things I do is buy in bulk and stock my refrigerator before any major festive season and before any major trend kicks in. Wishing you a happy vegan shopping experience!
